Treatment
Dr Becky is a GMC-registered Doctor and NHS GP, delivering anti-wrinkle treatments in Cardiff, South Wales.
Wrinkles and facial lines result from ageing due to loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin, muscle activity and your genetic predisposition. External factors such as sun exposure, alcohol consumption, hormonal changes and smoking can also increase the likelihood of wrinkles. Whilst you may be able to reduce or control some factors, you cannot influence all of them.
Botulinum Toxin A is approved for the treatment of numerous disorders and conditions to enhance people’s lives. It is used for both Medical and Aesthetic purposes and its safety is well established.
After a detailed consultation, very fine injections may be discussed to provide excellent non-surgical results for smoothing lines and giving you younger-looking skin. This may be recommended in conjunction with other treatments after a full assessment by Dr Becky.
This treatment can be injected in the face, neck, hands, feet and armpits to help with the appearance of lines or wrinkles, or to improve excessive sweating (hyperhidrodis).
A joint decision will be made about which injections would benefit you most and where these should take place after your assessment. The most common areas are two forehead areas (frown lines between the brows & forehead lines) and around the eyes (crows feet). These are the typical three areas which you may have heard other people refer to.
This is a temporary treatment and the procedure itself usually takes less than 20 minutes.

The treatment uses a very fine needle & is well tolerated with no anaesthetic. If you would prefer anaesthetic cream is used, this can be discussed with Dr Becky.

Aftercare Advice
After treatment, it is expected that you will start to see an improvement within two or three days. The full result may be judged at two to three weeks. You will be invited to attend a review appointment at this point, where the success of the treatment may be assessed and adjustments to your personal treatment plan made, if necessary.
You will be provided with detailed aftercare instructions during your consultation, but these typically include keeping the target muscles active for a few hours while avoiding extremes of heat or cold, facial flushing, vigorous exercise, lying down or leaning over for four to six hours.
The treatment may not ‘completely freeze’ the expression, particularly if the extreme effort is exerted to make an expression. This treatment is not suitable for lines present without expression (static lines) only active lines.
There may be only a partial reduction in movement, but this very much depends on the amount administered, the location of product placement and the effect of the treatment on an individual.
Effects last for three to six months (or sometimes longer with repeated treatments). After eight weeks, you may notice movement starting to return.
